British Library & St. Bartholomew the Great Day Pilgrimage

As we set out there was great anticipation of all that we might see and experience as we visit both the British Library (many for the first time) and then walk to
St. Bartholomew the Great in the City of London.
Our verse for the day, which we carried with us was: 119: 105
'Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path'
The British Library was a revelation and we saw so many interesting Christian texts. As we looked at these manuscripts, we reflected on how God's word had journeyed through the many generations, bringing challenge, comfort and wisdom to so many. Our guide was so good at sharing his passion for all the exhibits and he shared much about the Christian texts, which we were particularly interested in. A highlight was being able to see the Lindisfarne Gospels, which are not always on display.
After lunch, we left the British Library and walked across to St. Bartholomew the Great, one of London's oldest parish churches. As we entered we were struck by the atmosphere; founded in 1123 it was once a monastery and after several changes the church is a mixture of architecture and styles. Our guide was the verger Gordon, who shared his love and knowledge in an engaging way. So much to see and take in, but we were so encouraged when Gordon told us how much the church had grown and how it's full on a Sunday....how wonderful.
After such a full pilgrimage day, we walked a short distance to St. Paul's Cathedral, enjoyed a cup of tea in the crypt cafe and then went into this wonderful place of worship for Evensong. We sat under the dome and were led by very young choristers......it was a peaceful way to end our day and share together in worshipping God.

Here are some of the many comments from those who came:
'That was such an interesting day, I had very little concept of the British Library. What an amazing place and the guide was so enthusiastic. I love St. Bartholomews Church and Evensong was a special way to end the day. Thank you for your great organization and inspiration.'
'A very big thank you for organising such a brilliant day.....all parts of it were interesting and our guides were both informativ and inspiring. I loved it!
'Thank you for putting together such a wonderful combination of places to visit. I am still trying to take in the enormity of the BL and also the overwhelming atmosphere and sense of history and permanence that surrounded us in St. Bartholomew the Great. The day was full of huge contrasts, reminding me that God is always with us in the big things and our little thins too. Thank you.'
