Last Saturday a group of twenty of us met to take part in the ancient art of Kintsugi.
On this prayer day we explored how we might transform a piece of broken pottery with gold seams.
During the day we put back together, what was broken in a beautiful way. What was unique about it though, was that it did not hide the scars or joins, but made a feature of them.
As we mended our bowls, we spent time reflecting on our own brokenness and how God places a thread of gold through each of our lives, as we deepen our relationship with him.
We started by remembering that we are all the same, no one is more creative or better than us......God looks at each of us with joy.
Ephesians 3:20 - 'God’s power working through us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than we can ever imagine or ask for’
We then went onto look at three main themes:
Broken
(where we broke our bowls and looked at the times in our lives when we felt broken)
Building
(where we began to put back together our bowls with gold seams)
Blessing
(where we looked at how God was calling us to share what we had received)
It was a moving day, with all of us sharing and spending time listening to biblical truths.....and each other. Here are some pictures of one bowl that was created on the day.......
and some thoughts from the creator of the bowl.......'Reflecting upon how emotional and physical trauma in our lives can leave us feeling shattered and even broken, we were reminded, through rebuilding our broken bowls, that bringing our damaged lives to God enables Him to incorporate our traumatic experiences into who we are as beloved children of God, and he can make something beautiful'
