Our day pilgrimage to Winchester was varied and full....we started the day by travelling down by coach. While we journeyed along, we reflected on what we would 'let go of' or 'leave behind' in order to set our hearts and minds on seeking God. Whether that be in the people we met, the places we walked or in the worship at the end of the day.
Prayer
God our Father, we thank you for this opportunity today to give and to receive, to meet new people and to catch up with those we already know, help us as we pilgrim, to be aware of what you so abundantly give us and to notice the little things, which so often over look in this season of advent as we wait and watch for the coming of Jesus, fill us with an expectant heart and a eternal hope, in Jesus name…..Amen.
After wandering round the Christmas Market, we all gathered for lunch together in the and then went into the Cathedral. The guided tour gave us so much to think about from the history and life of the Cathedral to the current worshipping community.
We ended our day with Choral Evensong, it was a beautiful way to end our day.......
Here's what one person who came felt: 'The timing of the day’s opportunities was perfect. I loved the contrast of the activities -the feeding of the body with coffee and lunch in fellowship with others; the feeding of the mind with our guided tour - history to absorb and take those steps back in time to the political and religious struggles of previous centuries; the feeding of the spirit at the ending of the day with Choral Evensong….. interspersed with the frivolities of the present season as we had plenty of time to peruse the Christmas Market stalls. Interestingly, the rain added to the contrast of the day’s experience, because as we exited the dry sanctuary of the candlelit Cathedral and an inside journey into our spiritual selves, we re-entered the reality of a very wet human world to travel home. I am sure we are all still being refreshed by the memories of that very special pilgrimage day.'
